october (movie 10)

last night, i watched firestarter. i really don’t mean to keep watching these 80s or stephen king movies – but i just joined paramount+ to watch my beloved fraiser (revival) this week, so scrolling through their horror section either means brand new horror movies (which i typically don’t love) or the oldies…
anyways, i’ve never seen firestarter! i have no idea why or how i never watched it. maybe we didn’t have it at the video store, but i also don’t recall watching it in my childhood. in fact, when i was upstate at my mom’s house last weekend, she said she hadn’t seen it, either.
i liked it – an absolutely 80s-style SK movie. i thought the effects were pretty good and drew was such a good little actress. she was only 8 or 9 when they made that movie… it’s insane how good she was. anyway, tl;dr: the movie is about a couple who were willingly injected w an experimental hallucinogenic by the government. out of the group of people that were injected, i think only the pair survived. they ended up falling in love, getting married and having a kid and gaining telepathic abilities. the child inherited the powers that came along with the injections. drew’s character (charlie) has the ability of pyrokinetics and can see the future. one day, the father came home and found the mother murdered and charlie missing. the movie’s plot is based on the govt agents trying to track down the father and charlie who are running from them, because they want to take advantage of charlie.
i’ll leave it at that. i liked it and it’s definitely a movie i could watch over and over and not get sick of. maybe i found another new horror comfort movie 🙂
