sooooooooooooooooooo there’s going to be a new halloween movie coming out next month (DYING WITH ANTICIPATION), and my sister is actually flying in from LA to watch it with me and my fam. halloween is kind of… our thing. we grew up watching it form a young age (nope, i was never deathly scared of mikey as i was freddy or jason), and we passed it onto our cousins upstate. we can all quote it left and right, my sister and i just “know” the sounds and timing of everything… etc. so, that being said, we/i have a halloween obsession.
the new one coming out, if you’re unaware, is a reunion between michael and laurie strode (jamie lee curtis’s character) 37 years later. we’re supposed to disregard every other halloween film from the series but the original from 1978. for this film, she’s said that it’s basically her suffering from PTSD and it looks as if she’s turned into sarah connor. she is on a MISH to kill him this time around.
it’s kind of hard for me to totally get into or wrap my head around this, because i LOVE a lot of the other halloween movies. i was raised watching 1-5 as a kiddo, and i also grew to love 6 as an adult. i think i only saw h20 once or twice, but i don’t remember hating it, and i totally disregard everything after h20. don’t get me started on rob zombie’s piles of shit.
anysways, of course i’m hyped to see a new halloween movie, but looking at how many there were over the years is just criminal. there are 11 in that list, and we could have lived without a few of them. there are so many things people could argue about there… movies they love, hate, the hatred of a michael-free halloween III, etc. i figured i’d just break down my favorites/most hated. i just wanted to also touch on my utmost love for halloween II. spoilers for an almost 40 year old movie ahead? lol.

so if you haven’t already seen it, the trailer for the new halloween movie coming out this year was finally revealed… after watching it like, 830 times and reading about it here are my thoughts:
1. why must we completely ignore halloween II? i don’t understand why everyone hates that movie so much. it’s so creeeeeeeeeeepy. i’m 36 years old and i’m still freaked out looking down hospital hallways. i could care less about the plot holes “pace” of the movie, stated in various reviews of it. take that info and apply it to the story with a shrug like i always have. i don’t think they were that abundant that it needed to be scrapped. plus, the murders in that movie were awesome and just builds his brutal/spooky character. i also think they could have picked up the story from there. it’s just more for laurie to have gone through and survived.
2. all of the homage/nods in the trailer REALLY bugged me at first. it seems like every time something needs to relaunch or continue nowadays, you have to include these ridiculously obvious and cliche acknowledgements. if i could count on one hand how many happened, i’m kind of turned off. if they were a bit more subtle, like you’d only understand if you were a life-long fan, i’d respect them more (ie: when they drive up and the patients are all walking around – CREEPY and you know what that means if you’ve seen the movies).
3. wowwwwwwww laurie SARAH CONNOR VIBES.
4. as creepy as the teeth thing was, it doesn’t seem very michael myers to me… it was a little OD and his character doesn’t need to try so hard. even when michael killed creatively, we didn’t see it happen and he didn’t show us, characters found it. i did LOVE the nod to the garage death in H4, though.
5. i hate the mask.
6. i irrationally have always loathed judy greer (thank jawbreaker) and i wish she wasn’t in the movie. she doesn’t seem very natural in the part… blegh.
7. there were halloween III masked trick-or-treaters, which made me happy. that’s another halloween flick everyone seems to hate for no good reason… it’s creepy as fuck and has an amazing soundtrack.
at any rate, i can’t wait to see it… hopefully it’ll be creepy and great and all of these criticisms and skeptical thoughts won’t even matter. i’ll just sit here on laurie strode’s house waiting patiently, just like michael.

here’s another picture that i took in south pasadena the other day. this is the opening scene in haddonfield, from halloween 1. i could have done better, but this is what i did from memory (not awful). it’s actually really hard to see the house in the top picture in real life, because it’s now covered by trees. i sat on the corner for a hot minute trying to make sure i was even hitting the correct angle. a lot of the houses look the same. also: it has been 37 years since the movie was filmed, so the trees have flourished, lol.
at the other locations (ie: the street with the “hey jerk, speed kills”), the trees are actually still standing in the same shape. the same ivy is covering the trees as well.

steven and i went to anaheim for the duck’s home opener this monday, and also went back to visit the hedge! 🙂 ’tis the season!
i also never got to see the location of the walk the girls took home from haddonfield high, back to their houses… so i ended up on that block as well (the “speed kills” scene‘s street). none of the locations were decorated for halloween yet, which was a bummer… but when i arrived back at the strode house, there was a real pumpkin there this time! i really want to get to the damn hospital from 2 (which apparently doesn’t even look like it anymore, and is on private VA hospital property)… grr!

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR HORROR FLICK MARATHONS!
i need to make a list of *GOOD* horror movies… my friend and i decided that next month, we’ll be watching at least one movie a week in the spirit of autumn and halloween (and getting our friendship back on track). cold beers and spooky decorating is also on the agenda! as i said yesterday, i’ve been holding back so hard.
i have all year round horror posters on my bedroom walls and horror/halloween decor all over the place, though… so i always have my horror fix. i’ve got night of the living dead, several halloween posters, army of darkness (left), IT, misfits stuff, etc. – it’s funny, once i start decorating the living room, i start pulling stuff out of my room and it makes me all antsy that it’s not in there…
anyways, we were chatting about it and we both agreed that netflix’s horror section has been LE SUCKO lately. i’ve been trying to remember all of the old ones that i used to watch all the time, from when i worked at the video store (#RIP west coast video). like horrible, cheesy 80’s horror flicks. i don’t remember a lot of the names, but i do remember the cover boxes.
also: can we just talk about how when i worked at a video store and our favorites section held VHS tapes? lol (i’m so oldddddddd). i thought i had more horror in it, but i guess i was wrong. although, between my ex and i (below), we covered the good horror bases… i was just trying to remember what movies i had in mine, which apparently weren’t a lot of horror. i had the shining over a clockwork orange for kubrick on my favorites shelf, and then i remembered that my friend frank took that one. i remember battling my manager for “elizabeth” (with cate blanchette). we all had really similar tastes. i also think i wanted pet semetary, but my ex took it.
so far, on the list, we have… tales from the crypt (the tv series, i have the dvd’s), body bags, creepshow, the halloween series is a given (DUH), the paranormal activity series, hellraiser(s), the entity, and the evil dead movies are definitely in the queue. neeeeeeeed moarrrrrrrrrrrr!

that shithole of a season, summer, is finally gone! in the excitement of it all, i treated myself (and my seester) to a new mikey/halloween scarf! i almost bought the sweater, but then reminded myself that i fucking hate regular sweaters… also: it was $85 – FUCKKK outta here. although $40 is kind of pricey for a scarf, it’s also something i’ll wear A LOT during the winter, and the quality/length is awesome (giggity)… most definitely worth it.
also upon us: HOCKEY SEASON.
i made steve hang these sweet little floating shelves for our small/random hockey shit. i figured it all being near the little sign that i made was pretty appropriate. it’s also the thin space between windows, so it filled it perfectly. our lil living room is getting cuter and cuter by the day (and cluttered – need more bookshelves!).
i’m dying to get the halloween stuff up in the apartment, but i want to wait until october 1st. it’s still hot out there, and doesn’t truly feel like fall just yet anyway.
🙂 this season makes me feel so refreshed and happy. new wonderful things have been aligning at the same time, which is wonderful *thank you, universe!*. >:) old friends keep popping up, creativity has been flowing, strolling around aimlessly for hours in cool autumn weather is upon us, hoodies, road trips, warm lattes, cold beer with warm pretzels, hockey, ahhhhh! i love love love it! i only wish that it lasted as long as our miserable NYC winters do… 🙁

FFFUUUUU GOOGLE, I DID IT MYSELF!!!1
so two years ago, i posted about this seemingly lost WPIX indiana jones promo (please go read the post, so that i don’t have to write about it again, lol #lazyblogger). i was stumping google so hard, but i found a few people also inquiring about it… so i wrote to them about it as well. nothing ever turned up, so i emailed WPIX directly last november as a last resort.
it’s almost as if it didn’t exist… UNTIL TODAY.
i got an email in my inbox from one of their reps earlier that lead me straight to it!
sooooooooooo, if for some reason you too were looking for the WPIX “Raiders of the Lost Ark” movie promo… here ya go (a blurb from my email is even in there)!!!1

so i just got back from california again, and i got to hit up a few more halloween filming locations while i was out there. all of these locations were around the same area in south pasadena, so it was easy to kill a few birds with one stone.
the myers house. (1000 mission street)
this house was originally located a block or so away from where it is now. there are condos where the house used to be (across from the elrod house). i think it’s pretty insane that you can move a house, but i’m glad they kept it in tact and didn’t just tear it down.
the house is now home to offices, and on the front door they asked that we didn’t go up on the porch and what not. i took a couple of quickies, and kept on truckin’.
January 6th, 2015 @ 2:31 pm
i don’t know how or why it took me almost an entire year to post these pictures, but last march i went to california. i flew in with steve and our friend joe for a pens/ducks game, and then i ended up staying the rest of the week with bee. while i was out there, to carry on my forced tradition of finding filming locations with bee (lol), i had her bring me to a few special spots. los angeles is fucking huge, and really annoying to navigate, so i picked a few that were close in proximity. it was harder to achieve than when we were scouting filming spots in salt lake city.
i know it’s super nerdy, but i really want to get to see most of the halloween filming locations from 1, 2, 4, and 5. since i had covered a lot of 4/5 in utah, the california locations are up next. my sister and i always talked about doing this together, so i decided to wait for the milestone spots. those spots weren’t close to where bee lives (van nuys), nor was it super close to central los angeles anyway, so i didn’t go to any with bee.
HOWEVER. my sister ended up flying into LA the last night that i was there, so we setup a trip to the houses where annie and laurie were babysitting in halloween 1 when she landed…
while i was with bee, these were the other places i got to snap pics of.
1. zuma beach – baywatch was filmed here… maybe that little lifeguard station was in the show?
2. the old cobra kai dojo… apparently it was turned into a bank, but it was nothing when i got there.
3/4. the apartment complex that daniel lived in, in the karate kid.
5. the poltergeist house!
6. the liquor store from clueless where cher gets robbed after the party in the valley.
this time around in cali, steve said he’d be willing to go to pasadena with me – which means i could end up going to see the actual myers house, laurie’s house, the elrod’s house, THE HEDGE, the school where tommy went and possibly the hospital from 2 (but from a distance, since it’s a private VA hospital now, womp womp).
also in south pasadena, and very close to the halloween locations: THE MY SO CALLED LIFE HOUSE.
i WILLLLLLLLLLLL get that night shot. oh yes, i WILL.

does anyone remember when channel 11/WPIX (i guess maybe depending where you lived?) used to have their featured movies of the week? i remember they would super hype up indiana jones and they even wrote a song to the indiana jones theme song.
i can’t find it online ANYWHERE for the life of me 🙁 the closest i got was to this reddit comment (I HEAR YOU LOUD N CLEAR, IHMHI!) and a tumblr post linked below. on the reddit comment, it had:
♪ Chased by natives, chased by rocks ♫
♫ ’cause he’s Indy, he’s Indy, he’s Indy! ♪
which are part of the lyrics. for some reason my scatter-brain remembers parts of it as well, i just don’t know how close i am to the actual lyrics… i remember (with broken parts, and including his potentially correct lyrics):
chased by natives, chased by rocks
___????___ by a runaway truck
fast as lightning without a sword?
edit(?): wins a sword fight, with a gun [source]
’cause he’s indy, he’s indy, he’s indiana jones!
shit i could be way off, and maybe there’s more to the song i don’t remember (i kind of vaguely remember there being an “extended” version), either way, there are 93798379373 old school videos on youtube but none of this commercial. it’s so annoying! anyone have any leads/also remember this? i need this!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i’m a HUGE fan of the halloween movie series… my mother got my sister and i into these movies from when i was like seven. like, i know every word/sound/whatevers going to happen next… and i know most of the film useless trivia as most halloween fans do, which is why i was surprised when i had no idea that 4, 5 and 6 were all filmed in salt lake city… AND JUST BLOCKS AWAY FROM WHERE I STAY EVERY TIME I VISIT…
i got so. fucking. hyped. when i realized i knew where most of these places are located in reference to landmarks i set for myself, every time that i’m there.
so as soon as i found this out, i started compiling a list of all of these halloween filming location places that i wanted bee to take me while i was there… and she made my little horror nerd dreams come true. (luhh you grrrl<3)
here’s a quick halloween 4 rundown, in case you’ve never seen it: michael myers wakes from a coma, goes back to haddonfield to go after his neice jamie (jamie lee curtis’s daughter) after she’d been adopted by the carruthers family (script says jamie lee curtis’s character, laurie (his sister) was killed). rachel carruthers is the teenage daughter and a main character in the movie. that’s all i’ll say if you haven’t seen it…

June 12th, 2012 @ 11:27 pm
the other night, i decided to throw on halloween I and II. it’s been ages, and sometimes i just need it. when i was a kid, my mother always had the halloween movies on, and my sister and i loved them. we must have watched them 93879847947 times. in fact, i’m sure if you got us together in one room, between quotes from young frankenstein, the wedding singer, overboard, drop dead fred and halloween, you would want to shoot us. we’re ridiculous.
back to the point of the post… so i was looking at wikipedia info about the movie and its filming locations. i had remembered that the first two were filmed in california, but i wasn’t sure about 4, 5, and 6. so i googled it and found out that it was filmed on location in salt lake city. the more i googled address’s, the more astonished that i became. three of the main houses used in the film are literally blocks away from one of my best friends houses! …where i stay, every time i’m there! i couldn’t believe it.

my boyfriend and i got into an amityville horror interest the other day, which led me to googling it this afternoon. i wanted to read the book, based on the happenings when the lutz family lived there (for a measly 28 days), so i looked into it…
back in the 70’s, this guy “butch” defeo killed his entire family – both of his parents and his four siblings. from what i gather, he claims it was his sisters idea and that she helped in the murder but ended up also being murdered – and found in a naturally sleeping position (under the covers and all). he also said that voices told him to kill his family, but there are so many inconsistencies over the years that no one seems to know the real story. he does claim that there were no paranormal things going on growing up.
moving along, the next family that moved in a year later, the lutz’s are the family that claimed all of the paranormal stuff had happened. i never knew that there was a whole controversy about the lutz’s being “liars” and making up the entire story. the family that lived in the house after the lutz family claims there is absolutely nothing paranormally happening, or has ever happened in the house. for me, that takes away from the potential scariness of the book. i think i’m going to read it anyhow, but it boils down to paranormal activity and whether it really exists or not. personally, i’d never want to find out, lol… but if it really does, that’d be crazy if the lutz family did actually have to deal with that.

they’re remaking “american psycho”, and i’m suuuuper excited about it!
i saw the movie first and then read the book. as much as i love(d) the movie (and the dark humour), while i was reading the book, i was actually getting kind of pissed off that the movie parodied it as much as it did.
i can’t wait for this new adaptation. the only thing i’m not looking forward to is that it isn’t based in the 80’s.
although the harron movie is gory and dark, i still don’t think it was as dark as the book because of how serious the majority of the tone was in the book. i’m in no way saying it had no humour, but the movie embellished it a bit. what i find so aggravating, is reading the reactions to this remake. between reading comments online and then after i posted it on twitter, i got all this whiny nonsense back about it “being perfect the way that it is” and “it’s so good, why are they fucking it up” and “christian bale _________…” yadda yadda…
it’s been like 7 years since i read the book, but i pretty much remember christian bale wasn’t like pat bateman in the book… however, i believe that he was a fantastic pat bateman. i don’t know who could play a “better” one, but because this is the only version of the movie we have to compare it to, we’ll never have a good/clear opinion.
i’ve read comments about people bitching about how it’s going to be an insult between the cast and the adaption – and it’s pissing me off. why can’t people realize that IT’S JUST DIFFERENT?
i think people are missing the point and/or just don’t know that THE MOVIE ISN’T AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE BOOK… i’d love to know the percentage of people that actually read the book vs. didn’t that are leaving these comments.
the way that i’m thinking is, we’ve gotta just pretend that we never even saw that movie so that we give it a fair chance.
either way, i could give a shitfuck what anyone thinks, i’m excited, and i figured i’d share this information with whoever reads this website. #w00t

there aren’t many horror movies that actually scare me. my mom raised my sister and i watching horror movies, so not much bothers either of us. but my sister warned me about paranormal activity. she told me not to watch it because she knows what freaks me out and what doesn’t… i listened for quite a while (since the first one was released), but then i obtained a persistent boyfriend that wanted me to watch the third one in the movies with him.
after weeks of him asking, i finally caved, and told him that we needed to watch 1 and 2 at home, first. i must say… i halfway regret it, but i guess it was good because it did scare the shit out of me.
the only horror movies that have really ever affected me were:
a) stephen king’s “it“. i looked at that damn drain every chance that i could while i was in the shower until i was into my early twenties.
b) “the entity” – this entity was attacking her, raping her, and anywhere she went, it followed her 🙁
c) the remake of “the texas chainsaw massacre” – not so much the movie, but that Leatherface scared the shit out of me. i actually had a nightmare about him, and i never have nightmares from horror flicks 🙁
d) “the exorcist“. yeah, while i was watching it, i was laughing the entire time. that night, when i went to bed and tried to fall asleep, i started thinking about how that could happen and it bugged me out 🙁 i couldn’t sleep for an entire weekend. what a sissy, huh?
well, if you too haven’t seen it and know nothing about it, i won’t give any of the story away… BUT, i will only reveal this: paranormal activity is about an unseen, scary, strong, demon turd named toby. it (or he) is fucking with two couples/a few other people (in 1 & 2). even though they knew some freaky shit was going down in their houses, they didn’t know what it was, they couldn’t see it, and they didn’t realize when this thing was actually taking them over. i think that’s what scared the shit out of me so much.
also, specifically:
a) you can’t see the damn thing, and it’s super strong and powerful 🙁
b) these people setup cameras so that they could document what was going on in the house. mainly things happened very late at night, around 2-3 in the morning. but sometimes the damn thing did things during the daytime. that scared the shit out of me, like, give them a fucking break for a few hours, lol. i just feel safer during the daytime… i mean, who relates sunlight to demons and spooky/scary shit?
c) sometimes it would make them get up during their sleep, and they ended up standing up and just staring at their loved ones sleeping, for hours. 🙁
d) THE DAMN THING DUN FUCKED WITH A DOG. like, you know shit is evil when it’s fucking with an animal 🙁
i haven’t had any nightmares about it (yet, thankfully), but every time i take a damn shower i’m all “FUCK I GOTTA MAKE THIS A QUICK ONE BEFORE SOMETHING KILLS ME OR THE CAT”, and i keep waking up in the middle of the night looking around in the dark and freaking myself out. every little noise, every shadow moving, THE DAMN CAT WALKING ON THE BED, the heat making the pipes make sounds… it’s got me all fucked up.
so i dunno, if shit like that scares you, i suggest not watching it. i probably wouldn’t have, had i known all the shit that went down in these damn things 🙁
September 28th, 2011 @ 12:49 am
mike and i had a tuesday night mini-date tonight… we went to sheapshead bay for a trip to the movies to go see “killer elite”. (very romantic, huh?) it was my decision to see that flick, actually. i like all action movies that jason statham is in, so that’s why i went with that one.
it’s based on a true story consisting of revenge, assassinations, shady military dudes, and highly skilled special-ops dudes. if you’re a typical lass, i may have already lost your attention. but if you don’t mind killing, guns, crazy fight scenes (as seen below, he’s kicking ass while handcuffed to that chair…), explosions and some shady governmental characters… i say, go for it.
i thought it was pretty good, so i do in fact recommend it (if my opinion has any worth to you, lol)…
the entire time we were watching the movie, there was this old couple sitting in front and to the left of us chit-chatting away. at first, it was sorta cute when they were doing it through the previews, laughing and scream talking… you know, one of those cute old people couples… but they kept doing it through the entire movie.
mike and i thought they were pretty funny and giggled at each other about it a bunch of times.
the old dude kept balling up his napkins and throwing them forward at the empty front rows. we giggled at that too… homedude was a little rascally rebel!

i have no idea why i never had netflix until recently, but once i finally got it, i didn’t really know where to start. i thought there was so much that i wanted to watch but now i find myself getting annoyed with the selections. the first thing i watched was the crazies, just because i knew i really, really wanted to see that in the movies and i missed it. (and it’s good – watch it.) after that, i started looking for tv shows.
i started watching freaks and geeks on tv and fell in love with it. i caught it at some strange, awkward point and totally out of sequence and it was also only really playing late at night while i would be trying to fall asleep, so i kept missing episodes straight through. that was my first choice of tv series, but apparently there are some shows where you can only watch by disc, and that happens to be one of them. waiting an entire day (or two) for the next discs started aggravating me, so i kept looking and then i stumbled upon ally mcbeal. i remember loving ally mcbeal when i was in junior high school, and into my high school years. i didn’t remember a lot of the show in detail, but i knew i had liked it a lot so i gave it a whirl.
it’s actually really funny, and being that i’m older now, i caught on to so much more than when i did back then. i watched it up until the last season, because then it started getting really sucky. i think i could only stomach about 2/3 episodes before i gave up on season five. most of the main characters were phased out, the vibe was gone and the energy was misdirected. i’m totally glad that it lasted as long as it did though, because four are way better than one. (story of my life with tv series!)
the cast is amazing. the dude from ghostbusters II is so funny on the show. i caught myself hysterical laughing a lot. and no, the dancing baby isn’t ALWAYS there. (seems that’s the only thing that people bring up when i talk about the show…)
anyways, i highly recommend it 🙂
now a million years too late, i’m just getting into twin peaks. (while STILL getting freaks and geeks discs – i swear, the whole waiting for discs BS has made me lose interest…) i really hope this show is good, i know it’s got a crazy cult following…
otherwise, i highly suggest watching the steve byrne standup specials on netflix. bee and i were dying/laughing while watching him.
