i FINALLY just finished a re-watch of gilmore girls.  normally, i’d hate to admit that i watched this show…  but it grew on me differently this time.  i think the worst part about GG is all of the white privilege happening.  it’s so cringe, but this is what i signed up for.  the two main characters are white women, situated in a cozy little town in connecticut, what can anyone expect otherwise?

the first time i watched gg, i came away REALLY hating rory.  like, still to this day, i swore that she was the worst…  so after a LONG hiatus from the first time i watched it years ago, i figured i’d give it another run to see why i hated her so much.  so much time had passed since i watched it the first time, that i actually forgot the show (i love it when that happens).

this time, i started a note in my iphone’s notes entitled “FUCK RORY” to jot down why she is the absolute worst.  every time she severely pissed me off, i made note of it for this post.

my takeaway from this watch was much different.  i ended up mostly hating lorelai this time.

also: there is so much inappropriate comedy and homage i caught this time around that i either forgot or didn’t pick up on (clearly from all of the quotes i keep posting here on the blog…  but i love that in the reboot, rory ends up mentioning having a childhood crush on jerry orbach (who played her grandmother’s husband in dirty dancing).

so if you haven’t already watched gilmore girls, the main characters are lorelai (mother) and rory (daughter).  lorelai’s mother emily gilmore is played by the woman who played baby’s mom in dirty dancing.

i just picked up on a funny little tidbit while watching season 5, episode 13.  emily is over at lorelai’s house for her bachelorette party, and she’s telling a story about how she had to pull strings to book a very specific room somewhere for her wedding vow renewal ceremony.  she wanted “the rose room” and is telling the story about how “the sheldrake’s” had already booked it.  i just realized the sheldrake is the other hotel that’s in dirty dancing, lol.  the one where she and johnny go to secretly dance, where they see the old couple robbing people.
