the first 10

everyone keeps posting albums on instagram, uhhhhh i think their most influential albums or some shit (lol, clearly i’m paying attention on social media). i’m guessing that means coming of age albums. i don’t post shit like that on instagram, i actually still just post actual photos (unless it’s the occasional reminder post to follow my mobile wallpapers account so that you can see when i post new ones), so i figured i’d do something like that here.
instead of most influential, i’ll do the first 10 full albums that i can remember from childhood (which are honestly still in regular/heavy rotation even today)… thank you, mom ♥
she’d drive around day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year with these albums on repeat, and they’re part of me i’ll never be able to shake. these songs are always in my weekly/monthly playlist that i shuffle through.
i have vivid memories linked to the times in which they were played and stored into my memory banks, so they’re ordered by introduction to my ears.
1. billy idol – rebel yell
favorite song: (do not) stand in the shadows is my #1 fave on this album, but honestly this entire album’s songs are equally my favorite aside from “crank call” and “the dead next door”. i love love love this album so much.
2. the pretenders – pretenders
favorite song: mystery achievement
3. the cars – the cars
favorite song: just what i needed
4. the cars – heartbeat city
favorite song: hello again/heartbeat city
5. genesis – invisible touch
favorite song: in too deep/tonight, tonight, tonight
6. tears for fears – songs from the big chair
favorite song: everybody wants to rule the world (probably my favorite song EVER… like, ever ever ever.)/the working hour
7. mr. mister – welcome to the real world
favorite song: welcome to the real world/is it love
8. inxs – kick
favorite song: never tear us apart/tiny daggers
9. faith no more – the real thing
favorite song: the real thing/zombie eaters
10. queensryche – empire
favorite song: jet city woman
clearly after inxs – kick, my mother dipped her toe into the lake known as hard/alt rock. if i had to keep going, honestly, metallica’s black album would have been next on this list, lol.
