so my NY rangers season is over… but the stanley cup finals, they’re still going (although last night should have really been the last night, damn kings didn’t sweep the filthy dirty jerz devs). these are some random thoughts/things that happened/pissed me off, etc.
so sports is one of those things that people “aren’t supposed to talk about” because it’s one of those things that cause fights. simple discussions turn into arguments, and then apparently, turn people against each other… i usually go out of my way to not comment on peoples teams unless it comes up in this type of a discussion, because i’m not a total douche.
HOWEVER, i went out of my way this year to make some pro rangers/flyers series for the cup images in photoshop that someone considered douchey (i guess). we beat the flyers all year. a season sweep was a big deal to us ranger fans. in fact, we even killed them at the winter classic game, so you’d better believe that is exactly what i wanted to see on the chase for the cup… unfortunately, it didn’t end up that way. the stupid devils beat them and advanced…
back to my point…

so these were the only images that i made this year (aside from any celebratory images i made after successful game wins), and i put them on instagram. the first image was from the regular season, the middle one is only ranger supportive when we got to round two against the caps, and the last one is the image that pissed off (who shall remain nameless) a friend that i met through flickr a while ago… (we then became twitter and instagram buddies as well).
this nameless person went on about how he can’t believe that sports fandom gets so crazy that people have negative things like “fuck the ___(whoever)___”. he also told me he was going to unfollow me until the end of the playoffs, and that if i was going to post a picture like that, wll then i should have expected someone to come back with a comment.
PS – i didn’t create the tag “fuck the (whatever team)”, there are THOUSANDS of pictures on instagram, donning that tag with other teams.
that really struck that bad of a nerve that you un-friend me? i mean, yeah i get it, i guess i get irritated when i see people’s stupid “fuck the rangers” images or comments, but i let them slide right off of me, and definitely don’t comment on them, for various reasons.
a) it’s usually idiots who don’t even know anything about the team automatically saying that they suck, because we’re simply playing their team.
b) even though you’re disrespecting my team (which i would imagine is what usually gets people get angry), their opinion doesn’t mean jack shit to me.
c) even if i get irritated enough to say anything, then you have to get into a whole argument that will eventually end in no different views than when it started. what a waste of energy.
so the first image could only piss off flyers fans, but there’s no argument other than i was rubbing it in their faces that we beat them all year. that can’t even be argued. aside from my friend wilma, and one of my friends from philly, i don’t have anyone that could get irritated by this image aside from flyers fans that troll anti-flyers instagram tags. not only that, but i like the flyers (i know, i know). as much as i like them, i obviously don’t root for them when they’re playing my team… when we beat their butts all season, believe me i was wayyyyy proud of my #1 team.
image number two is completely pro-ranger, rooting for them. nothing against any team – which is usually my steeze. GOOOOO rangers!
so it was image number three that pissed off my devils fan friend. now, image number three is a little on the negative side, i get it. BUT…. both teams that made it to round two are listed as not desired to be advanced to round three, below for selfish reasons (as stated before, i wanted a battle of the broads). i wasn’t making an anti-devils image, so i don’t really understand why my friend felt the need to comment on in the way that he did. it’s not like i’m some stranger that he’s just met that could piss him off… it’s me. a person he KNOWS is a ranger fan, and a huge fan of hockey in general, there’s a rivalry between the rangers and the new jersey devils. in fact, i believe that if he couldn’t control himself enough to pass over an image without leaving a comment, he could have just unfollowed me without saying so (just as he did).
so back to his “fandom” thing. now i don’t know if this was aimed at all sports fans, me, or specifically ranger fans… but as soon as i saw this go up on the devils website, i instantly thought of him.

that’s right. the NJ devils franchise actually had this up as their homepage. can you believe that shit? (sorry about the horrible quality, it was a screen shot from my phone that was re-sized)
so basically i was being a jerk for posting something that wasn’t even targeting his team, but his team specifically targeted my teams fans. …this is the type of team that he stands behind? i wonder if he even knew about this “no blue” shit…
i understand that fans only want their fellow comrades in their home arenas, but seriously? basically saying that ranger fans aren’t allowed to have tickets, lol??? that is the most unprofessional, ridiculously pathetic marketing i have even seen for a sports team. in fact, i have NEVER seen anything like that done by any other team, not even in baseball. i’m a mets fan and i’ve never even seen that for the subway series!
also: the “thousands of seats still remain for both rangers home games…” had me ROFL. my boyfriend and i both tried to get tickets and they were sold out within two minutes… great way to lie and try to fill all of YOUR empty seats.
anyways, i suppose the point of this post was just to point out how ridiculous sports fandom can get, and hope none of you get to the point my “friend” did (he still hasn’t added me back on instagram, not even kidding). keep comments to yourself, because no one wants to hear them. people seriously need to pick and choose battles.
