concrete and nail rings

maybe it’s wrong of me to instantly get defensive and pissed when i discover people selling shit that EERILY resembles other peoples creations… but sometimes it’s just so fucking frustrating because of how obvious it seems (is). i have NEVER found copying off of other people “flattering”, and it infuriates me especially when i see my favorite designers being ripped off.
in this posts case, we have two of my favorite jewelry designers that have been totally (seemingly) jocked.
exhibit a: bijules – nail ring (i remember this coming out in 2006 or 2007)
i saw some girl commenting on one of my favorite instagram nail art chicks images, and i decided to look on her timeline. she was wearing a horribly cheap looking nail tip ring. i was like WTF? so her comments on that picture were along the lines of “OMG WHERE’D YOU GET IT”, etc. and she responded back with “ebay! just search xxxx (whatever it was)”, so i did just that. and this result came back.
personally, i find it funny that these people slept on these tips since back then. my beef with these cheese ball knockoff companies, is that yeah, i get it, people may not be able to afford a $200 nail tip ring… but then why look stupid rocking something cheaply made and definitely nothing like the original? bunk ass bullshit… i wouldn’t even bother.
exhibit b: dr. craze (etsy shop) vs booty heart jewelry

“booty heart jewelry” (wtf kind of a name is that?) tried to add me on twitter. i gave their shop a look, and was astonished to find they totally ripped off one of my favorite etsy sellers!
i looked to see exactly when each shop opened up, and dr. craze (the one i shop from) was open two years prior to the copier in question. i get that people get “inspired”, but seriously? i looked on etsy, and those were the only two sellers that i could find with shops donning this type of jewelry. so obviously they saw his stuff and rolled with it. i mean, look at these examples, lol!
i find it so weird and annoying. if you’re going to completely rip people off, why even bother? unlike exhibit a, these people didn’t even do it to make it cheaper – they charge relatively the same prices as dr. craze! it only goes for so long until people like me (who know the ins and outs of a bunch of etsy shops) come along, and find you completely corny. i guess at least they changed the overall shapes of things, but they just outright made a bunch of things that dr. craze did. these were just a few i pulled out as an example.
