nerd alert!
some computer nerd jargon
i hope i’m not alone in all of this…
- you remember how cool it was to finally get the brand spanking new version of AOL (v.4, more specifically) after leaving your modem downloading it for like twenty hours.
- you remember how cool it was the first time you realized you could make ANY picture your desktop wallpaper.
- you used to have to turn the computer on and off everytime you used it. – and had those plastic protective covers.
- you may have once knew both “HTML” and “< AOL . HTML >”
- you had a “geocities” or “tripod” or “angelfire” website.
- you once thought 33.6 speed modem was fast.
- you once had a mouse with no scroller.
- you have answered (or have even thought of saying) “play with my computer” to the question, “so what do you do for fun?”
- you’ve made voice WAV’s to customize sounds in your computer…
- you used winamp when it first came out.
- you remember how rad it was finding weezer’s “buddy holly” music video on your windows 95 CD.
- you remember that AOL 2 had lightning and a key on the signing in part of the log on.
- you used to make EVERYTHING on those “create-a-card” programs.
- you had a printer that didn’t have individual sheets of paper.
- you remember what those HUGE floppy discs were – and you know that they were actually floppy.
- you used to flush the toilet or cough when signing online “late” at night to drown out the sound of the loud ass modem so your parents wouldn’t kick you offline.
- you did *70 so that no one would interrupt your connection while you were online.
- you know what “hover” is, and that it was an awesome game.
- you remember when you didn’t even HAVE the internet and still spent hours on the computer.
- you thought frontpage ’98 was cool but never knew how to post anything but had a website on your computer.
- you had prodigy before aol.
- you get nervous, or even jealous when others use your computer.
- your OS was once windows 3.1 and you remember that damn teal desktop.. and the filing cabinet/manager.
- you and other family members talk through computers rather than face to face, in the same household.
- you remember playing ‘oregon trail’, ‘hot dog stand’, and ‘where in the world/time is carmen sandiego’
- you remember mosaic
