i am soooooooooooo fucking lazy. i bought a donny miller skateboard deck about a month ago with no parts. i honestly really didn’t know wtf i needed to buy, and i didn’t want to get ripped off, so i put off buying anything. i haven’t hooked up with my friend that i asked to help me build the damn thing, either. i’m a lazy jerk. look at how sexy it is, though:
i love donny miller so much. he always hits the nail right on the head. that’s actually in a book of his that i own, and to the right of the board is a donny miller tattoo. yes, i love his art THAT much. go check him out if you’ve never heard of him.
the only time i’ve ever been on a skateboard was when i was dating my first boyfriend in high school. i have no idea what made me want to set this goal for myself, but i did, and i really hope i don’t kill myself on it. i have to get off my buns and get my trucks and wheels and stuff. i haz failed “go skateboarding day” 2018. 😐
1. why must we completely ignore halloween II? i don’t understand why everyone hates that movie so much. it’s so creeeeeeeeeeepy. i’m 36 years old and i’m still freaked out looking down hospital hallways. i could care less about the plot holes “pace” of the movie, stated in various reviews of it. take that info and apply it to the story with a shrug like i always have. i don’t think they were that abundant that it needed to be scrapped. plus, the murders in that movie were awesome and just builds his brutal/spooky character. i also think they could have picked up the story from there. it’s just more for laurie to have gone through and survived.
2. all of the homage/nods in the trailer REALLY bugged me at first. it seems like every time something needs to relaunch or continue nowadays, you have to include these ridiculously obvious and cliche acknowledgements. if i could count on one hand how many happened, i’m kind of turned off. if they were a bit more subtle, like you’d only understand if you were a life-long fan, i’d respect them more (ie: when they drive up and the patients are all walking around – CREEPY and you know what that means if you’ve seen the movies).
3. wowwwwwwww laurie SARAH CONNOR VIBES.
4. as creepy as the teeth thing was, it doesn’t seem very michael myers to me… it was a little OD and his character doesn’t need to try so hard. even when michael killed creatively, we didn’t see it happen and he didn’t show us, characters found it. i did LOVE the nod to the garage death in H4, though.
5. i hate the mask.
6. i irrationally have always loathed judy greer (thank jawbreaker) and i wish she wasn’t in the movie. she doesn’t seem very natural in the part… blegh.
7. there were halloween III masked trick-or-treaters, which made me happy. that’s another halloween flick everyone seems to hate for no good reason… it’s creepy as fuck and has an amazing soundtrack.
at any rate, i can’t wait to see it… hopefully it’ll be creepy and great and all of these criticisms and skeptical thoughts won’t even matter. i’ll just sit here on laurie strode’s house waiting patiently, just like michael.
i have to be honest – i never really pay attention to the R&R HoF inductions, but of course i cared this year bc the cars were finally inducted! i can’t believe it took so long for them to get there.
watching this induction was wonderfully overwhelming, as the cars are one of my faaaaaaaaaaavorite bands ever. brandon flowers got to do it, and his love for the cars was pouring out of him while speaking… it was great. i can’t believe it took him that long to get to know who they were. brandon and i were born in the same year, just three months apart. it’s kind of funny how that happened. he discovered the cars while i was discovering all of the alt bands of the 90s, including weezer (funny enough someone in =w= played WITH the cars during the ceremony)…
i got lucky and i had young/rad people around me in the 80s the shoved all of that current music at the time in my face at a young age. my mother was a huge cars fan, and my cousins mary and jimmy were teenagers at that time and used to let me watch the heartbeat city VHS tape with them. i vividly remember being SO confused bc of ric walking on water during “magic” and i thought it was magic. i remember thinking about how cool/naughty the video for “hello again” was, and i love that i was a warhol fan before i didn’t even know who warhol was. panorama is probably not one of the cars most popular songs, but it’s one of my favorites, and the video was always one of my favorites.
i am so happy for them. during their speeches, they thanked us fans. it made me wonder if they even know how many “young” fans they know they actually have. i read in an article a few years back that ric ocasek didn’t want to tour for many reasons, but one of them was that he thought a younger audience wouldn’t exist. i got inspired to write him a hand-written letter soon after i read that, BEGGING him to tour for us one last time… i have no idea if he ever got the letter, and i highly doubt it’ll ever happen. if it ever did, it would definitely help fill my cold, black heart and make my measly little life a little more complete. music is one of the only things that really makes me feel emotion in life, and it’s a big part of my social life. when my favorite bands won’t tour anymore, life = over.
i’m a complicated bird… i’m all over the place in interests. i rarely post about sports, bc i feel like people are 50/50 on giving a shit about them. i am on cloud nine today, so i just wanted to post about how proud i am of these mets (and yet worried).
we won the NLDS against the dodgers last night. the last time the mets made it to the NLCS was in 2006, where we blew it against the cards. this devastated me so badly that i stopped watching baseball altogether for a few years. that’s why/how i started watching hockey again. year after year, the heartbreak was adding up, and getting way too hard to deal with…
a couple of weeks ago, steve and i were in washington and alaska… he was out there in seattle for work, and i joined him for the few days after he was finished. while we were out there, i wanted to check out some of the twin peaks filming locations. they weren’t too far away from seattle, just a bit east. where we visited was also in a large loop, so we hit the few spots and then went back on the highway to the city. here are the pics 🙂
the first stop was the (snoqualmie) falls and the great northern… there were a billion people up on the balcony, so i couldn’t get a shot without complete strangers in it 😐
i also didn’t get a shot in the hotel or anything, it seemed too busy and i felt weird, lol.
then we hit the twin peaks sheriff’s dept (which is now a private race track/school). the mill is across the way from there, and that’s where the drivers race their cars. when we pulled up, the groundskeeper already knew what we were doing there, and said we could go inside. there was a girl working the desk, but i didn’t say anything about being lucy, lol. she called us twin peakers and told us that we could look around, so we did – the wood on the walls was still in tact. super cool to see… also: i totally peed there. that’s mainly why i wanted to go in.
next up was the “welcome to twin peaks” sign (the painted one on the right is actually on the back wall of the cafe, FYI)
and last but not least, the double R diner (twede’s cafe in north bend, WA). steve got a stomach ache from eating there – and no, we didn’t have the cherry pie OR the coffee. also: the inside looks NOTHING like the show. apparently there was a fire there years ago. i can’t remember offhand if they actually shot the show there or not, though. maybe it was a set.
where laura was found was really far away from there, and a lot of other scenes were shot in california, not WA.
so two years ago, i posted about this seemingly lost WPIX indiana jones promo (please go read the post, so that i don’t have to write about it again, lol #lazyblogger). i was stumping google so hard, but i found a few people also inquiring about it… so i wrote to them about it as well. nothing ever turned up, so i emailed WPIX directly last november as a last resort.
it’s almost as if it didn’t exist… UNTIL TODAY.
i got an email in my inbox from one of their reps earlier that lead me straight to it!
sooooooooooo, if for some reason you too were looking for the WPIX “Raiders of the Lost Ark” movie promo… here ya go (a blurb from my email is even in there)!!!1
steve and i are moving into our new place next week (♥ ♥ ♥), and i’ve been fiddling with paint colour ideas for my bedroom.
for my last apartment, i really wanted dark and cozy. i didn’t realize that living in the basement, and painting half of your walls black in a studio apartment, could make it a super cave-like dwelling! i swear!!! but on the real, the black paint made it seem more open, if that makes any sense. that being said, i wanted black in this new place as well. a trip to ikea earlier in 2014 left me DROOLING over this pastel pink bookcase i just knew i needed… so i’m glad it flows well with all happy hues.
i can’t wait until i’m in a space with all of these happy colours, in addition to the light olive/pea green bookcase and dressers that i’ve scored from ikea over the years. 🙂
i feel like steve and i will be back to california this year again, so i titled this one “early california”. we spent a lot of time trying to find scott niedermayer, so we didn’t stroll too far into tourist lands… nor did we really go north towards LA… aside from the rangers/kings game.
1. our creepy ass/mile long hallway in our hotel.
2. my first day there, we got to hang with bee and we went to a rangers/ducks game.
3. NYR win it 4-1!
4. driving to the hollywood sign hike on mt. lee ♥ (that’s my dad’s name!)
5 & 6. we made it to the top – which was mighty hard. there were so many steep hills going up that hike… coming down was even harder, though.
7. while we were walking down, we took a wrong turn and ended up strolling around amongst these crazy hollywood hills homes. i fell in love with the one at the top here.
8. on the way to the rangers/kings game, i found this awful billboard (FUCK LA).
9. steve and i at the game. ♥
10. NYR win it 4-3!
11. we moseyed on over to the violent gentlemen HQ for some hockey goods.
12. after our VG run, we went to the beach, since billy had never seen/been in the pacific ocean. 🙂
13. we moseyed on over to the ducks team store for a limited edition jersey for stevie.
14, 15, 16. i got to meet bryz, corey perry and bruce boudreau at the honda center.
so i just got back from california again, and i got to hit up a few more halloween filming locations while i was out there. all of these locations were around the same area in south pasadena, so it was easy to kill a few birds with one stone.
the myers house. (1000 mission street)
this house was originally located a block or so away from where it is now. there are condos where the house used to be (across from the elrod house). i think it’s pretty insane that you can move a house, but i’m glad they kept it in tact and didn’t just tear it down.
the house is now home to offices, and on the front door they asked that we didn’t go up on the porch and what not. i took a couple of quickies, and kept on truckin’.
i don’t know how or why it took me almost an entire year to post these pictures, but last march i went to california. i flew in with steve and our friend joe for a pens/ducks game, and then i ended up staying the rest of the week with bee. while i was out there, to carry on my forced tradition of finding filming locations with bee (lol), i had her bring me to a few special spots. los angeles is fucking huge, and really annoying to navigate, so i picked a few that were close in proximity. it was harder to achieve than when we were scouting filming spots in salt lake city.
i know it’s super nerdy, but i really want to get to see most of the halloween filming locations from 1, 2, 4, and 5. since i had covered a lot of 4/5 in utah, the california locations are up next. my sister and i always talked about doing this together, so i decided to wait for the milestone spots. those spots weren’t close to where bee lives (van nuys), nor was it super close to central los angeles anyway, so i didn’t go to any with bee.
HOWEVER. my sister ended up flying into LA the last night that i was there, so we setup a trip to the houses where annie and laurie were babysitting in halloween 1 when she landed…
while i was with bee, these were the other places i got to snap pics of.
1. zuma beach – baywatch was filmed here… maybe that little lifeguard station was in the show?
2. the old cobra kai dojo… apparently it was turned into a bank, but it was nothing when i got there.
3/4. the apartment complex that daniel lived in, in the karate kid.
5. the poltergeist house!
6. the liquor store from clueless where cher gets robbed after the party in the valley.
this time around in cali, steve said he’d be willing to go to pasadena with me – which means i could end up going to see the actual myers house, laurie’s house, the elrod’s house, THE HEDGE, the school where tommy went and possibly the hospital from 2 (but from a distance, since it’s a private VA hospital now, womp womp).
also in south pasadena, and very close to the halloween locations:THE MY SO CALLED LIFE HOUSE.
i WILLLLLLLLLLLL get that night shot. oh yes, i WILL.
OKAY so i was complaining earlier, but then my day got a little brighter… recently, i reconnected with one of my elementary school buddies via instagram. we were closest of friends in like 5/6th grade… funny enough, we both grew up to like punk rock (yet we’ve never run into each other at shows). anyways, she let me know this morning/afternoon that vans was giving out free bouncing souls/gorilla biscuits (RSVP) tickets a la house of vans. so WOO! free bouncing souls tickets, YESPLZ.
i gathered a few of my friends, including one of my coworkers – and i am HYYYPED. i got very spoiled for a few years when the souls were playing all the time, and i got used to seeing them (minimum) 4/5 times a year… i haven’t been to a smaller souls show in almost two summers. last summer they played with gaslight anthem on the piers, but it didn’t really feel like a souls show at all. nobody was dancing/paying attention, i dunno.
when RSVP/smaller types of shows come to mind, i instantly think about the souls show at cha cha’s down in coney.
anyways, that show was amazingly important for two rad reasons:
a) i was promised by the lead singer (greg) that he’d ride the cyclone with me for the first time, prior to the show (via myspace, maybe?).
b) the. show. was. fucking. amazing.
a) it was raining that day, so no one was riding any rides at all… AND when i had bumped into greg after the show, he was all “ah man, sorry we didn’t get to ride the cyclone today” (!!!) the fact that he actually remembered was awesomesauce. it goes to show that the souls give a shit about their fans.
b) the. show. was. too. fucking. amazing. – no souls show has ever lived up to the cha cha’s show.
cha cha’s was a damn shoebox (them small/intimate punk shows are the best ever). it was late august on a rainy night – hot as balls. they played songs i’ve never seen them play before (i wish i had a set list, DOH!)… EVERYONE was singing and dancing. the best vibes ever… there was an age requirement, which weeded out the little shits that don’t know how to act at shows… it was just perfecto.
below is a video of my exbf on stage singing… ah man, it was so, so good.
as time goes by, i feel like shows get less and less epic. i mean, of course they’re always fun… it’s just that i’ve been doing this for almost 20 years, my youth is fading and the awe and fascination at shows is reasonably nil. i’m turning into the cranky old show veteran that doesn’t like beer spilled on them by little idiots. luckily for me, that rarely happens at souls shows… that’s more at long island based BS.
i’ve never been to HOV, but i’m assuming it’s also outdoors (bleh), buttt i’m hoping since it “sold out” so quickly, it’ll be one of those obscure/weird souls shows.
^ look at the cool setup the rangers installed in herald square!!! 😀
i’m sooooooooo proud of these new york rangers! we’re 2 wins away from getting into the stanley cup finals. i can’t even begin to describe how exciting that is… we haven’t been there since the last time we won the cup.
i NEEEEEEEEED to see lundqvist raise that cup. i’ve been watching hockey again for the last 7/8 years, and every year i watch him work his magic all season for nothing. okay, well not for nothing – he breaks an insane amount of records and wins trophies and what not – BUT THE BIGGEST ONE… THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE – he deserves it, already.
the team this year – including hank, it wasn’t an easy start for them. it was shaky because we had just gotten rid of torts and inherited AV, the chemistry was off – there was a new system. i didn’t think we’d even make the playoffs at all, to be honest. the fact that we came back and dominated the penguins was insane.
okay, no one cares about sports around these parts but me… lol. just documenting my excitement for the blueshirts. WOOOOO!
at the beginning of this year, i started making earrings with lyrics/words/quotes on them… obviously i can’t fit all that inspires me on 3″ diameter hoop earrings, so i took to the t-shirt template. i have been compiling ideas for new york ranger fan shirts for like 2/3 years that i never put to use, so a couple of weeks ago, i just opened photoshop and went with it. i currently go through a website “skreened(.com)” because i don’t exactly know if the t-shirt business would even take off – t-shirt companies are a dime a dozen these days… either way, i am not trying to step on anyone’s toes – i want to have fun/hitting close to home/true-fan shirts, and this is just my way of paying homage through something that i love – graphic design.
hey guys! sooooooo i’ve totally been ignoring my website (again, wth? i dunno…), but this time, it’s because of good reasons! aside from traveling and working full-time again, i’ve been crafting my butt off for jaejess. that hard work is paying off this year alone, no matter what the future of jaejess holds… getting to be a part of the ladies love project holiday pop-up shop this year, was a goal i was silently setting for myself, and we’re here – we made it. most of all, it’s so that we have a good time/meet great/new peoples.
basically, the LLP gals rent out a space and have a bunch of super rad vendors that craft amazing stuff. i’ve met a lot of cool people whenever i’ve been there to help support jes of toughlovenyc.
i’m extremely humble when it comes time to jaejess, i didn’t even think i’d sell as much as i have, so far. i don’t think jae and i market ourselves nearly as much as we should, but we’re a pair of busy ladies. so far, we’ve only really used our instagram accounts, twitter and i’ve been using pinterest here and there. to be able to bring my stuff somewhere to expose it to a bunch of new/different people is great (which is why i guess i’m so damn excited, lol).
that being said, if you’re going to be in the NYC area on november 17th, pretty please stop by the pop-up shop on the LES and say hi/shop/chill/browse others, etc.
i’ll have some pop-up shop exclusive earrings and the new headbands on hand, and it’d be great to meet you!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i’m a HUGE fan of the halloween movie series… my mother got my sister and i into these movies from when i was like seven. like, i know every word/sound/whatevers going to happen next… and i know most of the film useless trivia as most halloween fans do, which is why i was surprised when i had no idea that 4, 5 and 6 were all filmed in salt lake city… AND JUST BLOCKS AWAY FROM WHERE I STAY EVERY TIME I VISIT…
i got so. fucking. hyped. when i realized i knew where most of these places are located in reference to landmarks i set for myself, every time that i’m there.
so as soon as i found this out, i started compiling a list of all of these halloween filming location places that i wanted bee to take me while i was there… and she made my little horror nerd dreams come true. (luhh you grrrl<3)
here’s a quick halloween 4 rundown, in case you’ve never seen it: michael myers wakes from a coma, goes back to haddonfield to go after his neice jamie (jamie lee curtis’s daughter) after she’d been adopted by the carruthers family (script says jamie lee curtis’s character, laurie (his sister) was killed). rachel carruthers is the teenage daughter and a main character in the movie. that’s all i’ll say if you haven’t seen it…
okay, my computer is up and running again. i thinkkkk (since i don’t often download things) that i got this nasty virus from trying to view illegally streaming hockey games online… stupid cable provider and MSG didn’t want to cooperate financially for a while, so they were blocking out my ranger games… since i don’t watch much TV anyway and it’s almost the end of the regular hockey season, i cancelled cable and was relying on the bad stuff to watch games.
served me right, i suppose :\
my boyfriend and i went to florida and back since last i posted 🙂
i made some earrings and did my nails a few times… as per usual… (i lead a super exciting life in the winter, ey?)
my website to sell my earrings is almost done, so i can begin selling them! i haven’t been posting them here at all, i’ve been posting them up on instagram… sorry!
here’s a sneak peak at a few of my favorites so far 🙂
all i’ve been doing is catching up on work since i got my computer back, so i’m off to do that a little more… bartering for a tattoo for a website (via my friend kelly who also did my misfits skull), and working on a wedding website for my cousin getting hitched later this year… so farewell for now. thanks for reading this, if anyone even bothers to, lol.
they’re remaking “american psycho”, and i’m suuuuper excited about it!
i saw the movie first and then read the book. as much as i love(d) the movie (and the dark humour), while i was reading the book, i was actually getting kind of pissed off that the movie parodied it as much as it did.
i can’t wait for this new adaptation. the only thing i’m not looking forward to is that it isn’t based in the 80’s.
although the harron movie is gory and dark, i still don’t think it was as dark as the book because of how serious the majority of the tone was in the book. i’m in no way saying it had no humour, but the movie embellished it a bit. what i find so aggravating, is reading the reactions to this remake. between reading comments online and then after i posted it on twitter, i got all this whiny nonsense back about it “being perfect the way that it is” and “it’s so good, why are they fucking it up” and “christian bale _________…” yadda yadda…
it’s been like 7 years since i read the book, but i pretty much remember christian bale wasn’t like pat bateman in the book… however, i believe that he was a fantastic pat bateman. i don’t know who could play a “better” one, but because this is the only version of the movie we have to compare it to, we’ll never have a good/clear opinion.
i’ve read comments about people bitching about how it’s going to be an insult between the cast and the adaption – and it’s pissing me off. why can’t people realize that IT’S JUST DIFFERENT?
i think people are missing the point and/or just don’t know that THE MOVIE ISN’T AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE BOOK… i’d love to know the percentage of people that actually read the book vs. didn’t that are leaving these comments.
the way that i’m thinking is, we’ve gotta just pretend that we never even saw that movie so that we give it a fair chance.
either way, i could give a shitfuck what anyone thinks, i’m excited, and i figured i’d share this information with whoever reads this website. #w00t
so either the ny rangers twitter or one of the fan-powered twitter accounts posted about this recently, and i haven’t thought about this song in years! but it re-warms my heart because it’s two of my favorite things EVER, joined together… it’s almost as good as hearing the bouncing souls “ole” during my first ranger game as an adult… (i was on a hockey hiatus for years.)
long story short (in case you didn’t feel like reading through the wikipedia page), the misfits took over this fun/fast hockey song because the ramones had retired. it was a spin-off of “airborne ranger”, intended to play at ranger games at madison square garden to get the crowd pumped. the song was rejected because the word “danger” was in it. UH HELLO, small children can watch players pound each others faces but not hear the word “danger”? that’s ridiculous…
hearing this song again just made me super happy and i wish it did in fact play at the garden, because i LOVE michale grave’s voice. i wish it’d fill up my favorite arena<3
this leads me to thinking about all the “new” misfits haters that i’m sure twitch at the thought of the song…
that shit drives me crazy. i mean, i get that it isn’t glenn danzig singing (get over it, he moved on from the misfits himself, people…), but it’s still really good. grave’s voice is amazing and it’s simply geared more towards metal than punk rock… it’s horror, it’s fun and it was a new start for them and jerry only wanted to keep the misfits going… i love the fact that there’s old and new misfits. (i just realized that i haven’t listened to anything past the 1950’s project.) now if jerry only wasn’t such a prick, it’d be awesome if they’d reunite with danzig AND graves… my life would then be complete.
i wonder what danzig thinks of graves… #mustgoogle
oh, i forgot to mention the fact that my amazing boyfriend took me to see danzig last month! homie performed danzig, samhain AND misfits WITH DOYLE IN TOW. it was #best.
so i’ve seen the misfits 93798373987 times and now i’ve seen danzig perform the misfits… so it’s kinda like i have seen the misfits, lol. (well, aside from an original drummer)… i even got to see graves perform helena with them during one of the halloween shows the misfits played years ago at “the world” in times square (2002). it leaves me a very happy fiend camper.
sorry i’ve been neglecting this website AGAIN… what a fucker i am.
september has finally rolled back around, which means my birthday is coming upppppppp! (next week) – ugh, 30! #barf (apparently i’m STILL not handling it well) and that leaves changing will be just around the corner<333
anyways, i’ve got a lot to be happy about lately, which is why i guess i haven’t really been updating… aside from having another great vacation in salt lake, i’m feeling greatly inspired lately. i’ve been reading again, i downloaded a shit ton of new music that i’ve replaced or haven’t had before, i’ve obtained an amazingly sweet & sexy boyfrannn, i’ve got new clothes/shoes (refreshing), i chopped off all of my dead/dry hair (over eight inches!) and ryan callahan is the new captain of the ny rangers!
SO, aside from having a wonky work life, everything is feeling good lately.
in fact, so much that i’ve been doing a lot of thinking. mostly about people that i’ve cut out of my life, and i’d like to let that shit go. i’m getting older, and it’s nothing but bad energy. unfortunately for me, some of the people i’ve cut out of my life still talk to people that i haven’t. so it’s not like they’re never not in my life somehow, which kind of sucks. at any rate, i’m huge on perspective and i really think i need to write down who i can’t stand, and why. maybe i’m being irrational on some levels (although i doubt it), but if i can’t get them fully out of my life, maybe i should face what it is that i can’t stand about them to make sure that i’m handling it correctly. i just have zero patience for shitty people and the few people that are coming to mind i just shake my head at.
while i’m feeling this good, i want to tackle a bunch of things that bother me. this year already, i’ve conquered three/four important goals and i just want to keep it going.
i didn’t get a new tattoo in utah this time, and i’ve got the itch. i’ve gotta stop by three kings to make an appointment for my next idea: hockey sticks combined with autumn leaves in the shape of a laurel wreath. #fredperryinspired #UNF
i thought it’d be easier to just sum things up after a while, rather than write day to day… i guess i was wrong.
so what have i been doing for the last month?
1. on repeat (like, i-have-issues type of “on repeat”.)
2. catching up in the old hood<3
3. went to a movie in the park, (officially) met an awesome dude.
4. hanging out more and more with the awesome dude (here, in wburg.)
5. watching ally mcbeal like it’s nobody’s business!
6. spending more time with charlie<3
7. spending more time with christian (and charlie and rob<3)
8. spending time with lauren who finally came back from london
9. spending some time with teena! (and kurt!)
everyone/everything is doing a fine job of picking up the pieces lately.
things are feeling much better, although i don’t want to jinx myself.
i’m so glad that this summer is over because it was really fucking shitty until now. i just want autumn to be here.
hoodies & hockey, and that smell in the air… #BEST
i’m going to utah again next week<333 i think i’m going to chop my hair off while i’m there.
