here’s another picture that i took in south pasadena the other day. this is the opening scene in haddonfield, from halloween 1. i could have done better, but this is what i did from memory (not awful). it’s actually really hard to see the house in the top picture in real life, because it’s now covered by trees. i sat on the corner for a hot minute trying to make sure i was even hitting the correct angle. a lot of the houses look the same. also: it has been 37 years since the movie was filmed, so the trees have flourished, lol.
at the other locations (ie: the street with the “hey jerk, speed kills”), the trees are actually still standing in the same shape. the same ivy is covering the trees as well.
steven and i went to anaheim for the duck’s home opener this monday, and also went back to visit the hedge! :) ’tis the season!
i also never got to see the location of the walk the girls took home from haddonfield high, back to their houses… so i ended up on that block as well (the “speed kills” scene‘s street). none of the locations were decorated for halloween yet, which was a bummer… but when i arrived back at the strode house, there was a real pumpkin there this time! i really want to get to the damn hospital from 2 (which apparently doesn’t even look like it anymore, and is on private VA hospital property)… grr!
i’m the self-proclaimed birthday grinch… i could give two shits that it’s my birthday. i don’t really try to make plans unless it’s a milestone, i don’t want any cake, i don’t do that thirsty shit where i post about it online… i’d rather avoid it altogether. i hate getting older.
i will ALWAYS make plans to go to shows around my birthday, and this year was a doozy! the adicts came around again and played on thursday, and rancid played on friday.
the adicts played after bands i had no interest in seeing (psycho/rockabilly bullshit). they didn’t go on until 11PM – which didn’t agree with me and sceave’s old people bodies (lol). i was also fighting some sort of sinus/cold thing for 2 days, so i was so fucking tired by the time we were done with the show.
rancid on the other hand, i knew i’d need to be 100% for. every time we see them, it’s a mosh fit fucking workout…
i went to h2o/rancid with an old friend (pun intended), and danced my ass off so hard that i couldn’t function muscle wise for 4 days… i’m also covered in tons of small, random bruises. i actually ended up also seeing the great houdini at the show, and ended up dancing with/alongside him most of the night. i love bumping into people at these shows that i usually don’t get to see… when rancid took the stage, i ran right into the crowd so we weren’t stuck on the outside. i instantly found my friends john and joe right away… i ended up singing right into john’s face before i even realized it was him. we were both like wtf, lol? there was un pit shift and they were both gone. missy was also with me and she didn’t want to go in the circle. she stayed on the rim and i’d come back and forth, but i really just wanted to be in that circle dancing. it’s such a good workout. rancid always has the best crowds. almost no douches, fun pits, and everyone is also scream-singing their hearts out. i dread the day that i’m too old for shows/pits. :( i live for those nights/vibes.
i keep having to go to shows at terminal 5, and it’s such a pain in the balls to get to. i really miss roseland :( that’s where i’d seen rancid before that for years… now this is their new spot. it accommodates the large crowd that they bring in, so i guess they’re sticking with it.
i’ve been toying with the idea of a new york rangers tattoo for quite some time now… i never know what to get, though. i definitely would want it integrated with autumn, whatever i decide on. i’ve toyed with the idea of autumn leaves in the shape of a laurel wreath, traditional style, liberty logo, something with MSG (outside or the ceiling), something with a “30” incorporated… i don’t want the shield because it’s got too much white in it, no one ever gets the blue correct, and i hate negative space in tattoos. what it always boils down to is the liberty logo or generally the statue of liberty (wearing a jersey?).
i started re-watching daria again last week, and at the end of every episode there are alter egos to the left of the running credits. lo and behold, jane as the statue of liberty popped up, and an idea was born (left). it might need some tweaking (and the addition of daria), but it’s a start.
and speaking of daria fandom, can we just talk about my SWEET photoshop skills circa 1997…
a couple of weeks ago, steve and i were in washington and alaska… he was out there in seattle for work, and i joined him for the few days after he was finished. while we were out there, i wanted to check out some of the twin peaks filming locations. they weren’t too far away from seattle, just a bit east. where we visited was also in a large loop, so we hit the few spots and then went back on the highway to the city. here are the pics
the first stop was the (snoqualmie) falls and the great northern… there were a billion people up on the balcony, so i couldn’t get a shot without complete strangers in it
i also didn’t get a shot in the hotel or anything, it seemed too busy and i felt weird, lol.
then we hit the twin peaks sheriff’s dept (which is now a private race track/school). the mill is across the way from there, and that’s where the drivers race their cars. when we pulled up, the groundskeeper already knew what we were doing there, and said we could go inside. there was a girl working the desk, but i didn’t say anything about being lucy, lol. she called us twin peakers and told us that we could look around, so we did – the wood on the walls was still in tact. super cool to see… also: i totally peed there. that’s mainly why i wanted to go in.
next up was the “welcome to twin peaks” sign (the painted one on the right is actually on the back wall of the cafe, FYI)
and last but not least, the double R diner (twede’s cafe in north bend, WA). steve got a stomach ache from eating there – and no, we didn’t have the cherry pie OR the coffee. also: the inside looks NOTHING like the show. apparently there was a fire there years ago. i can’t remember offhand if they actually shot the show there or not, though. maybe it was a set.
where laura was found was really far away from there, and a lot of other scenes were shot in california, not WA.
so two years ago, i posted about this seemingly lost WPIX indiana jones promo (please go read the post, so that i don’t have to write about it again, lol #lazyblogger). i was stumping google so hard, but i found a few people also inquiring about it… so i wrote to them about it as well. nothing ever turned up, so i emailed WPIX directly last november as a last resort.
it’s almost as if it didn’t exist… UNTIL TODAY.
i got an email in my inbox from one of their reps earlier that lead me straight to it!
sooooooooooo, if for some reason you too were looking for the WPIX “Raiders of the Lost Ark” movie promo… here ya go (a blurb from my email is even in there)!!!1
i don’t know how or why it took me almost an entire year to post these pictures, but last march i went to california. i flew in with steve and our friend joe for a pens/ducks game, and then i ended up staying the rest of the week with bee. while i was out there, to carry on my forced tradition of finding filming locations with bee (lol), i had her bring me to a few special spots. los angeles is fucking huge, and really annoying to navigate, so i picked a few that were close in proximity. it was harder to achieve than when we were scouting filming spots in salt lake city.
i know it’s super nerdy, but i really want to get to see most of the halloween filming locations from 1, 2, 4, and 5. since i had covered a lot of 4/5 in utah, the california locations are up next. my sister and i always talked about doing this together, so i decided to wait for the milestone spots. those spots weren’t close to where bee lives (van nuys), nor was it super close to central los angeles anyway, so i didn’t go to any with bee.
HOWEVER. my sister ended up flying into LA the last night that i was there, so we setup a trip to the houses where annie and laurie were babysitting in halloween 1 when she landed…
while i was with bee, these were the other places i got to snap pics of.
1. zuma beach – baywatch was filmed here… maybe that little lifeguard station was in the show?
2. the old cobra kai dojo… apparently it was turned into a bank, but it was nothing when i got there.
3/4. the apartment complex that daniel lived in, in the karate kid.
5. the poltergeist house!
6. the liquor store from clueless where cher gets robbed after the party in the valley.
this time around in cali, steve said he’d be willing to go to pasadena with me – which means i could end up going to see the actual myers house, laurie’s house, the elrod’s house, THE HEDGE, the school where tommy went and possibly the hospital from 2 (but from a distance, since it’s a private VA hospital now, womp womp).
also in south pasadena, and very close to the halloween locations:THE MY SO CALLED LIFE HOUSE.
i WILLLLLLLLLLLL get that night shot. oh yes, i WILL.
1. :( korn passed away (RIP)
2. office xmas party!
3. i still have a lot of blue hair?
4. the disney store has RAD mirrors that i want in my adult bedroom.
5. it turned from autumn into dreaded winter.
6. rafael ramos’s funeral took over my neighborhood (RIP)
7. my boyfriend bought gold dipped sneakers. sneakers are weird.
8 & 9. horror pics from ian skelton arrived (#8 for me and #9 for my seester for xmas)!
10. i made a beautiful new ring! you can buy it here.
11. ricardo and i found abandoned coquito in the fridge here at work, so we claimed it.
12. the post is a piece of shit.
13. i FINALLY prevailed and got that SSUR wonder wheel tee that i wanted at a wayyyy lower price than the original.
14. while packing up my apartment, i found this stagebill from when i sang at carnegie hall back in 1995.
OKAY so i was complaining earlier, but then my day got a little brighter… recently, i reconnected with one of my elementary school buddies via instagram. we were closest of friends in like 5/6th grade… funny enough, we both grew up to like punk rock (yet we’ve never run into each other at shows). anyways, she let me know this morning/afternoon that vans was giving out free bouncing souls/gorilla biscuits (RSVP) tickets a la house of vans. so WOO! free bouncing souls tickets, YESPLZ.
i gathered a few of my friends, including one of my coworkers – and i am HYYYPED. i got very spoiled for a few years when the souls were playing all the time, and i got used to seeing them (minimum) 4/5 times a year… i haven’t been to a smaller souls show in almost two summers. last summer they played with gaslight anthem on the piers, but it didn’t really feel like a souls show at all. nobody was dancing/paying attention, i dunno.
when RSVP/smaller types of shows come to mind, i instantly think about the souls show at cha cha’s down in coney.
anyways, that show was amazingly important for two rad reasons:
a) i was promised by the lead singer (greg) that he’d ride the cyclone with me for the first time, prior to the show (via myspace, maybe?).
b) the. show. was. fucking. amazing.
a) it was raining that day, so no one was riding any rides at all… AND when i had bumped into greg after the show, he was all “ah man, sorry we didn’t get to ride the cyclone today” (!!!) the fact that he actually remembered was awesomesauce. it goes to show that the souls give a shit about their fans.
b) the. show. was. too. fucking. amazing. – no souls show has ever lived up to the cha cha’s show.
cha cha’s was a damn shoebox (them small/intimate punk shows are the best ever). it was late august on a rainy night – hot as balls. they played songs i’ve never seen them play before (i wish i had a set list, DOH!)… EVERYONE was singing and dancing. the best vibes ever… there was an age requirement, which weeded out the little shits that don’t know how to act at shows… it was just perfecto.
below is a video of my exbf on stage singing… ah man, it was so, so good.
as time goes by, i feel like shows get less and less epic. i mean, of course they’re always fun… it’s just that i’ve been doing this for almost 20 years, my youth is fading and the awe and fascination at shows is reasonably nil. i’m turning into the cranky old show veteran that doesn’t like beer spilled on them by little idiots. luckily for me, that rarely happens at souls shows… that’s more at long island based BS.
i’ve never been to HOV, but i’m assuming it’s also outdoors (bleh), buttt i’m hoping since it “sold out” so quickly, it’ll be one of those obscure/weird souls shows.
^ look at the cool setup the rangers installed in herald square!!!
i’m sooooooooo proud of these new york rangers! we’re 2 wins away from getting into the stanley cup finals. i can’t even begin to describe how exciting that is… we haven’t been there since the last time we won the cup.
i NEEEEEEEEED to see lundqvist raise that cup. i’ve been watching hockey again for the last 7/8 years, and every year i watch him work his magic all season for nothing. okay, well not for nothing – he breaks an insane amount of records and wins trophies and what not – BUT THE BIGGEST ONE… THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE – he deserves it, already.
the team this year – including hank, it wasn’t an easy start for them. it was shaky because we had just gotten rid of torts and inherited AV, the chemistry was off – there was a new system. i didn’t think we’d even make the playoffs at all, to be honest. the fact that we came back and dominated the penguins was insane.
okay, no one cares about sports around these parts but me… lol. just documenting my excitement for the blueshirts. WOOOOO!
♡ sooooooooo while i was in california last week, i got a judge judy tattoo! ♡
i was toying with the idea of a judge judy tattoo for years, and i came up with this one night, in late decemeber. i didn’t want to get a JJ portrait, so i thought this was perfect. kelly did such a good job – especially with the wood grain and the colouring. i love love love it! i’m glad it’s also something that i came up with, even though she put her special touch on it!
soooooooooo back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s(?) i used to use this shampoo/conditioner oasis line from vo5. the interwebz says that it’s lavender and chamomile, iiiii just always say “the purple one”, AND IT SMELLED SO DAMN SCRUMPTIOUS. i used to just leave it on my arms to marinate for a few minutes and then rinse it off so i smelled like it, i had always wished there was a body wash to go along with it… it was that good.
of course vo5 discontinued this item for whatever reason, so i thought i could no longer smell my favorite smell again like, ever… UNTIL NOW.
i was browsing CVS for my favorite drugstore body wash the other day, but instead of just grabbing the one that i always use, i sniffed around… i lived a little. i then found this. it smells JUST LIKE the oasis purple jammy, even if the bottle says “tea rose blossom and almond essence”, TRUST ME… it’s the purple vo5 smell!
this seems like a super random/strange post, but i hope it helps some other lady out there someday. there are some smells that are just too good to let go of, lol.
i’m not gonna lie, i did NOT think of this gem on my own. i was cruising around the interwebz and landed on kreayshawn’s tumblr and was like #UNF at her theme. so i hand coded this entire thang to function as closely to classic myspace as possible (so much went into it, i was surprised how long it actually took).
if you know me, you know that i loathe facebook. mainly because it was the downfall of my beloved myspace. i used to have a heavily/worldly supported website for contact tables and it was my creative outlet for years. once it was gone, my creative flow was just like… KAPUT!
i had my website on hiatus for years, then i started messing with photoshop/coding again once i got my job doing website development full time back in 2008. i appreciate people’s websites and the effort that goes into building layouts from the ground up. when i decided to make this layout, it wasn’t as easy as i had anticipated, lol. i always remember the myspace layout being mainly tables, but i forgot just now nested/terribly they were laid out (that was sort of nerd talk, sorry. tables are a bunch of invisible boxes where all of the content lives in cells).
so i’m rambling about bullshit nonsense… i only wanted to say it was via some themeing site that kreayshawn used, and not my own bright idea.
ANDDD… that i’m psyched to have my old profile functional, sort of, lol.
i am soooooooooooo hyped about my unintentional new collection of vintage items! the image to the left with the illustrated leopard cub on it is a little tiny t-shirt… that was mine from 1981 when i was less than a year old (i’m so glad that my mother kept it!)!!! i’ve always kept it in this little “LIFE” box that i have, holding more cute little-stu stuff (including another mini-stu shirt that reads “mommy’s little angel”).
aaaaanyways! so i was a vendor at the ridgewood market again last weekend, and there was a girl there selling vintage pyrex/cookware and mugs. as soon as i saw her put down that gorilla, i had to have it. i bought it on the spot.
when i got home that night, i checked ebay and lo and behold, there was the little coin purse (how cute is that happy little sloth?!)!!! FATE!
i’m so excited and hope there are other pieces out there in the world ♥
i’ve been trying to google/hunt stuff down, but i’m not really seeing anything as of yet.
soooooooooooo i was deep into tag surfing #neckface on instagram one day, when i came across the most magical tattoo artist EVARRRR lauren winzer ♥♥♥
of course when i found her, and wanted to book her ASAPPPP, i realized quickly that she was based in australia :( so i asked her when she’d be back, and she told me june 2013. that was like a year or so ago, so i waited and waited and kept my love for her a selfish secret! i thought since i hadn’t heard of her before, that not a lot of ppl knew about her, and that i could probably score an appointment from her while she visited next… then i realized she was a hit on tumblr, so i thought i had to keep her even more of a secret :x if i couldn’t get an appointment with her, i’d simply just DIE! (jk, but seriously, i wanted one soooooooo baddddddly!)
one day a few months ago, my favorite blogger lovie pie sheena had posted about LW… and i almost had a heart attack. i made her take down the post ASAP, lol. as soon as i knew LW was booking appointments for NYC, i hollered at sheebs. we dun did it last week ♥♥♥
i remember being around six, and wanting these soooooooooo badly…
i googled them earlier today and found that they didn’t make them anymore, but i did find these gems anddd these gems. i absolutely love the idea of this – kids actually getting to build what they play with – getting hands-on vs. being lazy videogame playing little shits!
i think that this was an amazing idea, although i’m sure there was a handful of weak/moron kids that fell off and cracked their heads open, or something.
at the beginning of this year, i started making earrings with lyrics/words/quotes on them… obviously i can’t fit all that inspires me on 3″ diameter hoop earrings, so i took to the t-shirt template. i have been compiling ideas for new york ranger fan shirts for like 2/3 years that i never put to use, so a couple of weeks ago, i just opened photoshop and went with it. i currently go through a website “skreened(.com)” because i don’t exactly know if the t-shirt business would even take off – t-shirt companies are a dime a dozen these days… either way, i am not trying to step on anyone’s toes – i want to have fun/hitting close to home/true-fan shirts, and this is just my way of paying homage through something that i love – graphic design.
cats sleep anywhere: by eleanor farjeon (1881-1965)
cats sleep anywhere -any table, any chair.
top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
open draw, empty shoe – anybody’s lap will do.
fitted in a cardboard box – in the cupboard with your frocks.
anywhere! they don’t care! cats sleep anywhere.
i love and actually understand the sport of hockey, it’s my thanggg. of course, i’m one of those girls that can’t stand puck bunnies… i don’t feel like going into a whole schpeel about it, so if you’re really curious/don’t know what a puck bunny is, try to ignore the horrifying background, and read this.
anyways, i’ve been dying to make ranger/hockey fan shirts for like, two years now. i never have the extra money to do it, so i figured for now, i would just go through a website that does the work for me… if it actually takes off, then i’ll consider going to get shirts screen printed… but for now, i just used skreened. so here’s one of my first shirts, puck bunnies // HOP OFF.
SO. my favorite bar evarrrrrrrr closed it’s doors last new years, and i wanted to see if there was any update on what’s going on with it.
i vaguely remember that the awning was still up, and that there was filming being done in the bar?
…either way, i needed an update.
i found this article and i feel slightly relieved that the restaurant owner next door bought the space. from reading the article, i feel like it’ll be safe and sound. i hope it doesn’t turn into some yuppie spot, because it was my favorite dive bar in NYC… i can’t wait to see what is on the way.
on halloween night this year, mike and i did the universal studios halloween horror nights. they had the walking dead maze which i previously posted about, and a silent hill maze. there were other mazes, but we didn’t walk through them… the lines on the mazes had crazy long waits, and the express passes sold out when we were buying our tickets that morning… so we just walked around, watched a live bill & ted show and drank cold beers.
the walking dead maze zombies looked amazing as did the maze itself, and just like the intended sets. there were a crazy amount of people there, so i guess it was tough to have people go in smaller groups. we saw all of the things that were coming up for us before we even got to them, because everyone was kind of being rushed through. one of the zombies in particular looked like others walking around also, almost like leatherface, and it seemed like there was this one repeat zombie almost four different times.
another thing that truly killed it for me were all of the universal studios staff members in the maze. it wasn’t a subtle person here and there, the black polo shirt donned helpers were so obviously perched at so many turns and in so many corners! it honestly took away from the element, killed the scary vibe.
although everything looked AMAZING… all in all, eh. i wasn’t scared or spooked by this one
the silent hill maze was pretty rad, the fog/ashes falling down while you walked in was sick (and yes, the sirens were going full steam)! it looked just like in the SH movies. there wasn’t too much that scared me other than the entire spooky vibe of silent hill, in general. the only things that really got to me were the creepy bathroom (from the first movie) with that chick wrapped in barbed wire (it looked so real!), the “cops” from the new movie, the pyramid head walking next to me/walking around creepy back alleys (completely dodged him, thank god) and the CREEPY ASS nurses.
the only thing that i think sucked about the SH maze, is that they really OD’d having an army of those creepy ass nurses – why concentrate on just one scary element?
all in all, loved this one.
mike and i were trying to get into this one maze called “dead end” but the line was excruciatingly long and i made mike get off of the line. it was seriously ridiculous, and that’s when we went to the silent hill maze (which we originally turned back from, which had an hour long wait). i wonder how that one would have been. we left soon after, because we had been at the park all day. we were exhausted and sore from the entire day.
i’m going to florida tomorrow, and the boyfriend and i were in talks about universal and disney this trip… i don’t know how good of an idea this is going to be, seeing as that i had an anxiety attack watching the season finale back in march, but i think this is going to happen.
